Useful Terms
- Alcohol Swab: immensely practical invention with a wide variety of uses.
- AMA: Against Medical Advice
- Christmas Tree: part of an oxygenating device that connects the tubing to the wall unit.
- Code Blue: drop everything, report to named room. Cardiac arrest.
- COW: computer on wheels
- Decub: also known as bedsores, pressure ulcers, or decubitis ulcers.
- DVT: deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that impairs circulation and causes death
- Foley: eliminates the necessity of rising to void (see definition).
- I's and O's: a comprehensive list of all a patient has ingested or expelled from any hole in their body, artificial or otherwise.
- Incontinent: look it up
- MAR/MAK: a list of a patient's meds
- MI: heart attack
- Prophylaxis: prevents a disease
- Pyxis: place they keep meds ands supplies
- Report: a quick summary of patient's activity during the previous shift

Dorinda...I'd recognize that political cartoon anywhere. :) I'm already immune to the swine flu, so I'm good, thanks. But I think ALL NURSES IN THE WORLD SHOULD GET THE SWINE FLU. Just for the record. :)
